Crime O’Clock is a detective game that allows you to go back and forth through time, poring over a map at different moments to solve a mystery.
I loved Eye Spy books as a child. I also enjoyed Where’s Waldo and the like. As a teen, and even an adult, I started playing a lot of the hidden object games because they felt very similar. Crime O’Clock, however, takes that general concept and elevates it to a completely new place. In this game, you are a detective who is investigating a few different cases. The world is in black and white as you look at all the little details of the investigation. Each crime is story-based, allowing you to read through what is going on so that you can find clues and figure out what happens next.
Along with being like a hidden object game, there is also an element of time travel. You are a time traveling detective with an AI called Eve that is helping you go back and forth. You can see subtle changes in the world as you move around the clock, and noticing the right ones will help you figure out what is going on and how the criminal completed their job. You can end up preventing the crime altogether, which is wild!
Crime O’Clock steadily adds colored notes and highlights to the black and white map, showing you what you need to pay attention to, what you have discovered, and what actions you’ve taken in that area. These details will start to fill up the map, but everything is clearly labeled and not confusing at all as you discover what is going on for this individual story. The map itself feels huge, but being able to zoom in and see these different highlighted areas can keep you on track.
In Crime O’Clock, you will end up exploring a bunch of different time periods, solving crime in each one, and messing with the flow of time. It’s a really well made, fun detective game that feels just amazing to play. I fell in love with this game at the Spring Mix Showcase and cannot wait for it to be out.
