In Doronko Wanko, a pomeranian tries to find out how much of a mess they can make while their owner sleeps.
Sometimes, you just want to trash the place and cause a bunch of chaos. In this title, you are literally rewarded for how much of a mess you can cause while your owner sleeps. Playing as an adorable pomeranian, you can get away with almost anything. You are cute, your fur is white, and you clearly wouldn’t cause any sort of mess on purpose.
But that is exactly what you should be doing. The game itself gives you a massive house and your owner, a young lady, is asleep in at the kitchen table. While she is napping, you are able to run around the house causing all kinds of trouble. Your little paws can run through mud, paint, drinks, whatever and leave footprints everywhere. You can knock stuff off of tables, bite at things until they pop, and throw yourself around until the house is in shambles.
As you destroy your new home, the game calculates the total cost of the damages, and it sure feels good to see the numbers go up. Whenever you hit a milestone, you will get a gift that randomly appears in the house. These gifts are often normal objects, but they can help you make even more of a mess. A fan, one of the first items I unlocked, is able to blow more garbage and yucky stuff stuck to your fur farther across the living room. Over time, you can also unlock more rooms to explore and ruin as well.
There are achievements within the game that feel funny and satisfying to unlock and you can check all your damage at the end through a play-by-play receipt. It’s quite interesting to see exactly how much it will cost to fix the aftermath of your reign of adorable terror.
I played a bunch of Doronko Wanko at Gamescom and I really liked the idea of destroying a house as a cute dog. There isn’t really a set goal beyond “mess up everything”, but sometimes that’s the best type of game to play. I enjoyed how quickly the numbers went up and how much money I ended up costing my poor human. Hopefully all will be forgiven. I am cute, after all.
Doronko Wanko is available for free on Steam.
