You know those little shelf decorations that are a mini-crafting project? The kind that were all the rage as bookends just a couple of years ago. We have so many of those at home! It only makes sense, what with their popularity, that there is a small indie game that takes inspiration from them and creates a game from it.
In this puzzle game, you are grabbing up the different pieces of your Book Nook and putting them together. Often they snap together, but this isn’t as cozy as the game looks. In the demo that I had the chance to play at Gamescom, sometimes the larger pieces didn’t quite snap in and things got caught behind the main board. It also felt like I was a little too close to the actual board to be snapping on these pieces.

With that said, when I did get it right, it all felt very good and snappy! The little worlds they created were very cute and once they were made they came right to life. Other characters appeared in the story – a couple that had just bought this little apartment appeared at the front, adding a bit of story to it.

It’s fun seeing all of the different decorations and tiny details in the worlds that are created in Book Nook. There isn’t any sort of timer or scoring at the end of the levels, so there is a cozy aspect within that. The game is also just stunning – hand drawn with beautiful aspects to it that make sense and look good. You can very much customise some of the spots of these items, if they’ve got more than one place within the puzzle.
I do think Book Nook has a bit of testing before it will be fully ready later this year, but for now you can wishlist it on Steam.
