MonsterCare has you running a hotel that takes in imaginary friends and makes sure they are able to move on when they are no longer needed.
When imaginary friends need to move on from their little human, where do they go? In this game, you are in charge of a hotel for these monsters, giving them an environment where they can process what is going on, enjoy their memories, and then move on.

This is a management style game about loss which is inspired by games like Spiritfarer and Animal Crossing. You work at and manage a little hotel where you can grow produce, create new rooms, clean up messes, set activities, check people in, and basically do everything that needs to be done when running a hotel.
Everything is extremely colorful and bright in this game, it feels full of joy despite having an underlying story about loss and growing up. When I played the demo of MonsterCare at BCN Game Fest, there wasn’t a story element added yet, but the developers spoke about adding in these stories so you get to know the monsters that are staying in your hotel through their activities and your interacting with them.

There was a lot to do in the demo that I did play; from customising the rooms to talking to the monsters to making sure our plants were all taken care of, I was kept quite busy. This doesn’t feel like an intense game with too much to do, though. Instead, everything feels cozy with no real bad thing that happens if you fail to do something.
MonsterCare is cute, wholesome, and feels like something that would be fun to play. I’ve tried hotel management games before, but not many that felt as charming and adorable as what I saw in this preview build. I would be interested in seeing the game with more of the story elements around the various imaginary friends that are staying there, but even as it stands, it’s pretty fun to tinker around with.

MonsterCare is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can add it to your Steam Wishlist.
