ABSCONDER needs you to tear through a complex compound, making use of every shortcut you see as guards chase after you.
This is such a fast paced runner. It has youing look around new maps with a limited view, trying to find the best route to escape. I first watched someone else play ABSCONDER and thought “wow, they suck” because it is one of those types of games where everything looks far easier than it seems until you’re in the thick of it and running for your life yourself.

You see, in this game, you have a limited cone of vision and need to move forward using that limited view, finding doors and paths to the exit. A huge timer ticks away and various enemies like dogs and people with weapons will chase you. When you hit a door, you can often go straight through it unless there is glass in the way or some bracing bit of wood, in which case you need to time the use of your movement to get through it.
When playing ABSCONDER myself, I felt the intensity of the music, lack of vision, and people chasing me. There are often many different routes you can take to get to the end, and thankfully, the game lets you have a look at most of the map when you die so that you can memorize the right way to go and try again. Often, dying actually can help you as you will know where you’ve previously gone and where you should have headed. As the levels continue to progress, you’l find more challenging paths with complex timings that you need to pay attention to.
I got the chance to play ABSCONDER at Devcom where I did manage to get through quite a few levels before I raged out. It’s one of those games that feels good in the way it plays, and you will find yourself trying “one more time” several times, hoping to make it to the exit.
ABSCONDER is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can add it to your Steam Wishlist.
