Shmup Devil Engine aims to bury players in bullets, but you can absorb them (for a price), staying in the desperate fight against a sinister machine that was once meant to mean salvation.
With such a cheerful name like Devil Engine, how could such a machine possibly turn on the people? At any rate, you’re piloting the Andraste in hopes of taking out an army of flying machines and the satanic machine that leads them. Luckily, you’ve got your own screen-covering shots, missiles, and lasers (plus some handy bombs) to mash metal with.
If you can keep up the pressure, you will steadily increase your score multiplier in Devil Engine. While the bragging rights for a high score are nice, you can also use them to buy new stages, music, ships, and shaders. However, you can expend your score multiplier at any time to give yourself a bullet-absorbing burst, saving you from destruction but costing you valuable points. Is it more worthwhile to live, or do you fight to keep your points to buy goodies?
With high-energy play, a pounding soundtrack, and a variety of nasty robots out to ruin your day, Devil Engine aims to deliver some excellent shmup play.
Devil Engine is available now on Steam.
