Amnesia: Rebirth aims to terrify with its monstrosities that are out to get you and your unborn child, giving you more to be afraid for.
Yeah, it’s pretty awful to be dogged by some sort of slavering creature in the dark, but it sure feels a whole lot worse when you have a little one to take care of while you’re at it. Thankfully, the child hasn’t been born yet, so you won’t have to avoid capture while carrying around a chubby little human that constantly screams louder than a fire alarm. Avoiding creatures while trying to stay calm and soothe a baby would make for a bit of stressful horror, though, wouldn’t it?
Well, you’ve lost bits of your memory, leaving you, as protagonist Tasi Trianon, trying to understand why you’re in a desert in Algeria, where everyone has run off to, and why monsters want to hollow out your skull to use as a decorative bowl for potpourri. I mean, what else are you gonna put that stuff in when you live in some musky lair? Monsters like nice smells, too. I assume. Anyway, you’ll be doing a lot of careful exploring in first person to find your answers while staying out of monster jaws, steadily solving puzzles and finding information that might give you the answers you’re looking for. Or you might lose your sanity. Either or.
The folks at Frictional Games make some masterful horror titles, so I fully expect to be looking over my shoulder for a long time after spending some time with Amnesia: Rebirth. The stress of escaping a monster while trying to take care of an unborn little one might make this one a bit too much for me to take, though.
Amnesia: Rebirth will be made available today on PS4, the Epic Games Store, GOG, and Steam.
