Astalon: Tears of the Earth‘s devilish monsters and traps are bound to take you out eventually, but you’ll come back stronger with each death.
A village is in trouble. Three heroes get tapped to fix the problem by climbing a nasty tower filled with all kinds of troublesome creatures. As a rogue, fighter, and wizard, they all have different roles to play while working through the tower. No need to think about which style you’d prefer to play, though, as you can swap between them throughout your journey. So, if you feel you could use a bit more magical power, swap to your wizard and bring them along.
No matter what you choose, something will probably kill your poor character. Death tends to be an annoying setback in most action games, but here, you gain a little benefit when you pass on. You all made a deal with the Titan of Death, which results in you being reincarnated until you can save your village. You can unlock little perks each time you pass as a part of this deal, so you get tougher and more powerful each time you die. I’m sure there will be no repercussions for this by the end of the game, though.
Astalon: Tears of the Earth looks like a sharp action game with some fun variety in its characters, but it’s that ability to gain an edge from failing that has me intrigued. It’s nice to get a little benefit from playing poorly for a change.
Astalon: Tears of the Earth is available now on the Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, and Steam.
