Bear’s Restaurant sees you working through the memories of the dead and preparing their favorite dish from when they were alive.
Bear runs the restaurant, and you get to help them out as the Cat. Keeping this restaurant beyond time going can be pretty challenging, so it’s lucky that you can be a good assistant. However, because of this, you’ll be the one digging through the memories of those who come here to eat, seeing their final moments and exploring their thoughts. You’ve got your own problems as well, as the Cat can’t seem to remember their favorite meal or their past. Which seems kind of worrying given the circumstances.
The game’s site makes a point of telling you that seeing how these lives have ended is not going to be a pleasant task. As such, you can decide how deeply you look into these dying memories, if at all. There are bound to be many sad memories and moments tied up in the minds of the dead, after all. So many regrets, so much depression and rage, that it can be a lot for one person to witness and carry with them. You’re going to want to take care of yourself as you look into these bleak moments, as the game, while bittersweet, can definitely take a toll on you.
Bear’s Restaurant asks you to look at some bleak lives with compassion and care, something that won’t be easy, but in doing so, hopefully you can provide some comfort to people who’ve long been looking for it.
Bear’s Restaurant is available now on the Nintendo eShop.
