Fans of Danganronpa and Zero Escape may feel an instant bond with Birth ME Code. The game revolves around a death game that YOU are in charge of.
Unfortunately, you’ll have to be very careful with how you play or you may find that your abductees have figured you out…
Nine participants. Six will die. Depending on how you play, you may find yourself among the body count, so it’s imperative that you use every tool in your arsenal. Luckily, as the mastermind of this terrifying game, you’ll have quite the tool kit. Each of the participants has a helmet on their head, and with your savvy hacking skills you’ll be able to peek into their eyes and eavesdrop on their top secret conversations. You need to stay ahead of the game, after all. Your main goal is to find the traitor that threatens your carefully thought out game, and you have six hours to do it. You’ll have to build trust with your ‘comrades’ and deceive them to keep yourself shrouded.
Each interaction and choice you make to earn trust with these characters will set you on a certain path. The game offers many radically-different endings depending on which characters you cast your lot with. Don’t think you can just reload a save, though, as the game does a mandatory auto-save to keep you from using that simple trick.
Luckily, since most players will want to see every ending, you’ll be given 24 separate save slots to try out different options. The game even pays attention to your saves and, depending on your route in a current save, may unlock a new route in a previously abandoned save. It’s a complex system, but if you’re feeling overwhelmed there’s a flowchart to check out how each choice throws you down certain paths. Definitely a good tool for when you want to unlock every possible scenario. You want to enjoy your death game to the fullest, right?
While this is the second entry in the ABiME franchise, players can take up the reigns of Birth ME Code without worrying about the order. If you find yourself wanting more though, you’ll be able to check out Head AS Code to sink your teeth into the series further.
