Fueling your starship with hamburgers doesn’t have to be a stressful experience in Burger Patrol, as there’s various styles of play in this puzzle game.
Captain Tyson needs to get his starship home, but the ship is only fueled by tasty burgers. Which would mean I would probably get myself lost in space somewhere. Thankfully, the good captain shows more restraint than I, so he’s just got a hold filled with ingredients that keep sliding into our puzzle field. By taking these pairs of ingredients and arranging them properly, you can make up layers on a burger. Once you throw that bun on top, all similar ingredients on the board are destroyed and that tasty treat gives you a bit more fuel for the flight home.
Now, making a burger isn’t usually a stressful experience for me, but this game can make it into one. The ingredient drop speeds will steadily increase as your score goes up here, so the better cook you are, the more hectic things become. There are a couple of modes that can take that pressure off, though. There is an easier mode where the drop speed never changes, but also a “Chilled” mode where you can take your time to lay out your burgers however you want. I really liked this addition as it provided a calm place to learn the game’s rules, and also just let me toy around with my burger-making technique. There’s also the fact that, sometimes, I just want to fiddle with a puzzle game at my own pace, so it was nice to see that ability here.
Burger Patrol is quite silly, but is also a welcoming puzzle game for a variety of skill levels. It offers challenges whether you want something high-speed and demanding or chill and quietly thoughtful.
Burger Patrol is available now on Steam.
