In Cocktail Party, you’re on the trail of a strange character, and you only have a few minutes to figure out what’s going on with them at a bizarre party.
You have been invited to a big, expensive party with loads of rich people – none of whom actually know who you are. Not that who you are is even important, but it is your main drive for going. You see, you are a reporter who met a bird called Ruby at an event, and you’re trying to track them down. Upon coming to this strange and mysterious party, you find loads of affluent people, not wanting to talk about what exactly goes on at these parties. It’s a bit unsettling, and everyone keeps mentioning Ruby in a negative light and some girl called Hannah who no longer comes to the event.
Actually, the more you talk to people, the more you realize that this place isn’t that great and these people have bigger problems and secrets than you may have first guessed. You have exactly five minutes to talk to everyone in the room, building a picture of what you guess is going on. This timer ticks away in the corner of the screen, but leaves plenty of time to talk to everyone worth talking to at this event. Once the timer ticks down to zero, the main event happens, which still doesn’t make sense to me due to the massive cliff hanger this short game ends on.
Cocktail Party is really well made. The writing for each of the characters, though intense and predictable for some, is well done and makes personalities come across quickly. The animations for the various characters are simply wonderful and show a lot of personality as well. There is more to come to Cocktail Party, as this is the first chapter and it is still under development, but the first five or so minutes leave a lot of intriguing questions, so if you have some spare time, it’s worth diving into this story.
