Cranked Up straps some rocket propulsion to a doughnut so that it can defeat an evil pizza and save its favorite cup of coffee. Yeah.
Why is this pizza such a jerk? I don’t know. Why does it want to cover the world with pineapple slices? Dunno. Why did it steal your coffee cup friend? Not entirely sure. It’s just a series of silly reasons meant to put you in a mood for some absurd high-speed platforming as you blast a customized doughnut buddy of your choice across wacky maps filled with traps and dough-stopping mechanisms.
Normally, a doughnut doesn’t have much ability to get around, but someone strapped rockets to you. You should be fine. The rockets can be fired with two different buttons to get you moving, but since you’re a circular sentient food, the rockets might not always be pointing in the direction you want to go. You need to watch how you’re rolling and where your propulsion is aiming before you give yourself another burst, as you’ll often send yourself in unexpected directions. This definitely adds to the silly mayhem as you struggle to aim yourself, bouncing around hazards as you make your way to the end of the game’s fifty levels.
If the story doesn’t have you captivated, you can try some of Cranked Up‘s multiplayer levels. In these, you can fight to maintain control as you and a partner are strapped together, or just straight up race other players through tangled maps. With its simple, yet absurd control scheme, expect any style of stage you play to be filled with laughs as everyone tries to keep going the right way.
Cranked Up is available now on Steam Early Access.
