CUCCCHI is an exploration of the works of Enzo Cucchi, creating a varied visual experience in inhabiting and wandering through their works.
Seven areas, each with a drastically different look and feel, have been created from the artist’s works. These have been shaped so that you can walk between the colors and beings captured within, allowing you to feel like a part of the art for a time. Each seems to carry a different emotion within it (although that’s quite possibly just my interpretation of what I’m seeing), conveying varying levels of wonder, menace, and delight as I walked through them.
As you explore, there are items to collect (can’t have a game without giving you something to pick up). These are tied to various works by Cucchi that get unlocked in a gallery you can look through to see their art, as well as the inspirations of the game. They don’t form quite the same connection as the works you can explore, naturally, but it’s still lovely to see a game that takes so much time to really make the player feel something for an artist’s work.
CUCCCHI makes for a stirring connection between the player and art, giving them a new way of interacting with a piece of art. It’s a literal way of looking at Cucchi’s work from a different angle, and as someone who plays a lot of video games, felt it gained a sense of tactility and presence when I was surrounded by the work instead of observing it from a distance. It’s certainly something special.
CUCCCHI is available now on itch.io.
