Cult of the Lamb sees you gathering followers to beat up monsters and show adoration to your savior with. You haven’t seen a cult this cute before.
In this game, a stranger saves you from death. This puts you massively in their debt, though. You will now need to build a following (a cult) in the name of your savor. You must venture through the world, attacking strange creatures and saving wild animals who have been left in their own states of despair or who are not able to follow their current prophet. Teach them your ways through saving them, and you will end up creating your own land of followers who can then help you build a town or fight off monsters alongside you.
You can choose, from your first cult member, the look and feel of your cult. You can pick their color, change their appearance, and check out the various traits that they have before accepting them into your growing community. You can then assign them tasks, but will also need to ensure that they have meals to eat and homes to live in so that they will be happy cult followers.
Fighting off monsters feels quick in Cult of the Lamb, as you can slash and dash your way through the compact areas then quickly move onto the next. You can see the map between areas, having a bit of an idea as to what you will face next. The visuals in the game are really interesting, too. It’s slightly cute, slightly creepy, with a 2.5D view point. I also enjoyed the lighting’ there’s lots of purples and reds, which bring a really spooky feel to the game itself.
There seems to be a large amount of weapons that you can find in Cult of the Lamb, which felt sort of like Binding of Isaac in the way that these different items have abilities that will then change how you play the game. In rooms that present more than one, you can take more than one and switch around depending on how you want to play.
Goals are showcased on the screen, giving you more direction on where to go, and plenty of interesting and strange creatures are dotted around the map, waiting for you to interact with them. While many are enemies, some are little challenges and others bring new aspects to the story. I got to play a limited demo at WASD earlier this year, and fell in love with Cult of the Lamb.
Cult of the Lamb is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can add it to your Steam Wishlist.
