Cute Metroidvania ‘Aggelos’ Gets Harder With a New Update

Aggelos‘ adorable monsters and bosses belie their newfound power with the addition of a new Hard Mode in a recent update.

The Kingdom of Lumen is in trouble from other-dimensional beings, and although these things look kinda charming and friendly (despite some grumpy frowns), they all mean a lot of trouble for an unprepared hero wandering the countryside. Luckily, players can string together an array of magical attacks and battle/movement abilities to give these big, colorful monsters some trouble right back, creating your own combos to deal with trouble.

While you can technically make yourself a high-flying, monster-fighting dynamo, the game’s new Hard Mode aims to temper your aggression. Enemies will hit harder, shoot more projectiles, and move and strike quicker, creating an experience that will challenge those who feel the game’s a little too easy. It also opens things up to players from other territories with several new translations.

Capturing a Wonder Boy-like feel, Aggelos offers a sprawling, non-linear adventure across its colorful worlds. Just don’t expect that adventure to be as easy as it was before now, though.
