Dark Tides is an adventure game where you play as a boardwalk psychic unravelling the demonic mysteries of a seaside Victorian town.
Playing as Theodora Green, you are tasked with figuring out if this town is possessed or if everyone is just sort of sick with some strange illness. Right off the bat, things are a bit strange as you suddenly find out that you can now read minds. Maybe you weren’t a real psychic before, but with these new abilities, it sure does help you play the role. You do have a little helper, too, in the form of a ferret that talks to you and follows you around as well.

With your newfound powers, you get to determine the fate of Cape Fortune and see if you can stop whatever forces there are from haunting the innocent people that just want to live their lives. To do so, you’ll need to read minds as well as use items in the right places. Along the way, I found that the game had an interesting, slightly chaotic feel that spread from the puzzles to the story line to the characters themselves. It’s got a lot of charm, especially for something that calls itself a horror game. Although there is a creepy aspect to it, I wouldn’t say the game itself feels like a horror game to me.
I got the chance to play the demo of Dark Tides at AdventureX, where I quite enjoyed the quirky narrative storyline and all of the strange puzzles that you could solve. There are a lot of interesting characters, and the mechanic of being able to read their minds through thoughts over their heads gives you a bit more of an insight into what you should be doing, which does help!
Dark Tides is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can add it to your Steam Wishlist.
