Sure would be nice to live the good life, breathing real air on a habitable planet. Too bad you’re digging for scraps on ships loaded with killer robots in Deep Sky Derelicts.
The future never seems all that bright in video games, does it? And even if we do show some sort of promising start, we always manage to mess it up somehow (which doesn’t seem to be too far off of real life, honestly). In this title, things are, quite naturally, grim. There are some lovely planets out there with real food and air (or so you’ve heard), but you don’t have the funds to settle down in one of them. Instead, you get to scavenge for useful parts and valuables aboard abandoned starships. What delightful future employment!
Seeing as spaceships are expensive, people tend not to leave them languishing in space for no good reason. Hence all of the monstrous aliens, horrifying creatures, and killer robots that are roaming around them. You’ll need to fight these creatures off through guiding three mercenaries in battle, playing out the moves you choose with cards. These cards give you a lot of flexibility, but also mean you might not have the card you want to play while something is trying to spit acid in your face. Strategizing on the fly is vital in this game (and we enjoyed it quite a bit back in the game’s Early Access), if you want any chance of that nice retirement package you’re working toward.
Deep Sky Derelict‘s mixture of horror, strategy, and tense roguelike card game now comes with a few pieces of DLC in its Definitive Edition, which you can grab on consoles right now. Assuming you need to add a bit more adversity to your life these days.
Deep Sky Derelicts: Definitive Edition is available now on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, Humble Store, GOG, and Steam.
