Drag Her is a 2D fighter that features famous drag queens and kings fighting against each other using quirky moves and accessories for combos.
At our household, we do watch a lot of Rupaul’s Drag Race, so when we spotted Drag Her at some of the after parties at GDC (CourageXL, The Mix) we were really curious to understand what exactly this game was! It’s a game where you can pick out which Queen or King you want to play as, then fight against another player. These characters were all based on a bunch of famous drag personas (and they look super accurate, too). Speaking with the developers, it turns out that they are actually working with the queens and kings, creating the game alongside them so that they have input on what they look like, their signature moves, and their costumes!
The game itself is straightforward. Two players are on the screen and can button mash or learn their combos and moves to defeat each other. These different characters all have a signature move, which relates to their persona, and all of them have their own attacks and animations, generally. Once someone’s health falls to zero, the round is over. After one player has three wins, the game is completed and a winner is crowned.
The real pull in Drag Her is the visuals and connections to the different queens and kings. I really found the look of the game conveyed graphics the characters so well. It was very easy to spot my favorites from the show! You can customise your character a bit, too, choosing from different outfits. It was a nice plus. On top of this, the team behind the game seem like such big fans and are making this game to help support the drag community!
Drag Her is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can follow its creation on the game’s site.
