Combing through island temples, icy fields, and volcanic tombs is rough stuff, but it gets a little easier when you have an owl buddy you can huck at your foes in Eagle Island.
In all seriousness, Koji the owl is an incredible weapon when you’re working your way through some dangerous locales. They can be hurled in eight directions, can be equipped with a number of perks you find throughout your journey to make them a more effective projectile, and they’re just straight up adorable. Although I’m not sure if throwing a cute buddy at enemies is a selling point or not. Still, you have an effective weapon with your animal pal, although you do have to wait for them to fly back before you can throw them again, meaning you need to put a lot of thought into when you want to attack. Plus, you don’t want to give the owl a concussion, here.
Still, you’ll be thankful for Koji the Owl’s help as you explore all manner of striking, yet monster-filled, places. Vibrant jungles hide ancient temples filled with riches, blowing snow briefly clears to unveil the detailed creatures that hide within the swirling white, and many more wonderful lands await your journey. You can also choose whether you want a more story-driven playthrough or a Roguelite mode, allowing you to play with permanent death or a more relaxed experience. It’s up to you how you want to go. Although I wouldn’t want permanent death for my owl buddy, myself.
If bird buddies and lost temples sound rad, Eagle Island just might have what you need.
Eagle Island is available now on the Nintendo Switch and Steam.
