EDDA Cafe has us spend some time with Mina, delving into the loss that has held her back for the last two years. Hopefully we can help her.
While the visuals of this game are beyond adorable, that doesn’t mean the story shies away from difficult subject matter. Mina lost someone dear to her in an accident, and she’s carried the guilt and regret of it with her ever since. This has had some painful effects on her life, keeping from truly enjoying anything or finding happiness. She deeply hates herself for what happened. Luckily, she’s still got some friends who want to help her. And a mysterious waiter who introduces her to a very interesting cafe a few days before Valentine’s Day.
At her friend’s prodding, Mina decides to check the cafe out, finding out there’s a bit of special magic at work in the calming place. Turns out that this place can turn back time (in a way), which allows Mina to take another look back at the past event that’s poisoned her existence. What will this second chance mean for her, though? Will it give her the ability to move forward with her life? Will she linger in this past world?
EDDA Cafe will likely drum up your own feelings on what you’d do if you could only go back to the past and change some things. It’s a striking look at what that power might mean for us, and about how hard it can be to let go of the past even if it’s drowning us.
EDDA Cafe is available now (for whatever you wish to pay for it) on itch.io.
