Unusual flowers, worms, and creatures wander the striking alien world of EMUUROM, and with some exploration and scanning, you’ll start to understand them.
At first, I really didn’t know what was going on. Moving forward in this quirky world full of worms and big flowers felt like the natural progression, but the world is set up to be quite open, leaving the player to explore.
I was jumping around, building up momentum so that I could reach higher heights and make it to new areas. Exploring the world is slow, as you jump on worms and change the color of flowers, taking your time to figure out where to go next. Soon, however, you get a gun ray thing that really changes how you are trying to play.
This gun allows you to scan the world around you, gaining information on the creatures and flowers that you have been interacting with, which gives you more information on what you should be using them for and doing with them. This is where the fun really starts in EMUUROM, as the gun does glitch out the world and give you bits of interesting information!
You can then continue to explore, learning along the way. My only issue with EMUUROM is the jumping mechanics. Bouncing on worms or flowers and building up momentum isn’t a huge issue, but when there are small jumps that I can’t seem to time worms on correctly, it just feels very cumbersome. I sort of wish these smaller jumps were just super simple so that the large jumps – ones where you get to build up lots of momentum and make a massive jump – were much more satisfying.
Regardless of the jumping, I still enjoyed my time exploring this strange world, learning about the ecosystems there and trying to find my way to new areas and new creatures! There is something quite satisfying about making larger jumps and finding a new place to explore.
EMUUROM is available now on itch.io.
