Fishticuffs is filled with sea life that has no intention of getting on your hook, and will blast it out of the water in seconds if you aren’t careful.
There’s some pretty good money in the fishing industry in this world, although you’re not terribly likely to be able to collect it. Everything from the tiniest minnow to the most massive whale is packing heat and will just litter the screen with shots if you get too close with that fishing hook. As such, you need to gently weave your line through the arrays of bullets, snagging loose dollars, treasures, and whatever fish you can carefully snag. All hopefully without getting your hook all shot up.
Your hook has the potential to become so much more powerful as you fish, though. There’s plenty of stronger items floating along the waters as well, and if you can snag those, you’ll get a bit stronger. Just don’t expect to keep any of these power-ups on later runs or anything, as the game gleefully resets all of your progress if your hook gets too banged up. I guess fishing hooks are a bit rarer in this game’s reality. It seems odd that one would lose their entire catch and every treasure they had just for losing their fishing hook. I never tire of video game logic.
Fishticuffs may be filled with lighthearted puns, but its pacing and tension are anything but chill. You likely won’t relax much on this fishing trip, but you won’t want to leave it, either.
Fishticuffs is available now on Steam.
