For Hexposure is a cute potion-making game about a witch trying to make rent. If you can make the right concoctions for customers, you can pay your bills.
Your business and your home are all in one building; one that you rent from a landlord. You’ve finally got everything set up, so that you can start your business. Each day, various customers come to your door looking for a potion to solve an issue they have. Some just want a cup of coffee, some want singing lessons, and others are looking for a potion that makes cereal taste like bugs. Luckily, you have a bunch of different recipes, so can normally find something that fits what is needed. You just need to use the recipe’s clues to figure out how to make the potion itself.
You see, it would be too simple to have a recipe book that tells you exactly what is needed for the recipe. Instead, there are a bunch of different clues to let you know what items you should be finding and how to use them. Sometimes, things need to be cut or ground up before they are added. There are three different categories of ingredients as well, but you can only use one category per potion, which gives you some idea as to what you really need.
If you create the right potion and hand it to a customer, they then seem to make some sort of excuse as to why they cannot pay you, leaving quickly afterwards (unless they are snails, that is). At the end of each night, you can look over your social media and see what people have been saying about your business. Hopefully they’re sharing kind words, at least. There is also an email where you can read what your landlord thinks; and he still does seem to want to be paid for the use of his building (even if no one is paying YOU). For Hexposure is shaping up to be a lovely, funny, well-made game that is full of charm.
For Hexposure is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can grab a demo from itch.io.
