Garlic follows a boy who’s not interested in wishes, but the Goddess granting them. Can you seduce someone when you’re punctured by spikes, though?
There’s a Sacred Tower where a Cyber Goddess lives (or at least hangs out, as I can’t see many reasons for her to stick around when there’s no wishes to be granted). She grants wishes to folks who climb the tower, which seems pretty cool. Except you’ll probably die in the climb, so you’re gonna want to be REALLY sure you want that wish. Well, turns out that a certain onion-headed boy (named Garlic, which is odd) has a massive crush on the Cyber Goddess, so he’s out to seduce her instead of get a wish. Well, I hope that’s what he’s interested in. Wishing someone loved or lusted after you is kind of gross and weird.
So, now you’ve gotta help him with the climb. He’s pretty acrobatic, thankfully, so you’ll be dashing, wall-climbing, and smashing things with your head. Especially that last part, as your noggin is a very deadly weapon and a great means of getting around. Using these tools, you can clobber creatures, dodge pits, and hopefully keep from getting perforated by spikes. It’s not going to be an easy journey (but the Steam page mentions being generous with checkpoints, so hopefully it won’t be too frustrating), but if you’re willing to help this guy shoot his shot with a Goddess, you have to believe in yourself.
Garlic looks super sharp (and kinda ridiculous) in motion, so I’m very excited to see how the guy’s journey turns out. Although I wonder how healthy it is to hit things with your head so much.
Garlic is available now on Steam.
This looks really good ! Thanks for the review.
Pixel perfect gameplay. It has some quite repetitive fillers in its level design but it makes it all up in charm. Highly recommended to all the Celeste lovers.
