Grid Force – Mask of the Goddess is a tactical, bullet-filled RPG with a captivating story where you are able to control a squad of varied characters.
Your character starts off with no idea who she is or what her story is, but through the other members of your squad, you can slowly learn. This story-based RPG does have a lot of little scenes where two characters will talk with each other, revealing more of what is going on. It seems like you have lost your memory a few times before, and possibly even burnt a few bridges with your fellow squad members, but they are willing to join you if you showcase your strength.
All of the action is done on a large, rectangular grid. Your side of the grid is a four by four cube, as is your enemies’, and these connect in the middle. You can’t move over to the enemy’s side of the arena, but you can attack across enemy lines. Your characters have a few different attacks which will actually drain their resources. Soon, they are unable to attack without a break, forcing you to switch to another squad member. This is a great way of getting you to explore the different characters and not just stick to your favorite person.
Within Grid Force – Mask of the Goddess, you can actually go through and upgrade your squad, picking points to put in various different categories to ensure that your team is forming in the way you like to play. There is really a lot going on! Bosses start to appear, comic strips showcase more of your interactions with these various characters, and your team is diverse in body type, culture, and personality.
I got to play a bit of Grid Force – Mask of the Goddess at Insomnia 68, where I had a wonderful time talking to the developers about the future of the game and playing through the demo they had there. It’s a challenge to beat these bad guys, but at the same time, it’s worth it to get to the story elements for me!
Grid Force – Mask of the Goddess is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can add it to your Steam Wishlist.
