Mazu is a sharp action-adventure game that puts players into a labyrinth riddled with monsters. You’ll need some fast reflexes and top-notch combat skills to survive.
Playing Mazu, I knew I would need a lot of practice before I would master the delicacies of strafing and parrying. It is punishing, but I was so attracted to the visuals and design that I wanted to push forward to see more. The folklore and art is absolutely gorgeous. The amount of detail in their small sprites showcases the talent of the creators. You will be able to see more of this in the battles via slick animation and enemy design.
While the combat leaves little room to breath, it is compelling. There will be rarely a moment for you to collect yourself, so make sure to have your next move planned accordingly as you dodge for your life. Against smaller enemies, you may gain confidence – but the large boss is sure to take those feelings away until you can prove yourself. I welcome the challenge and can’t wait to see more of this gorgeous and curious game.
