Heidelberg 1693 will see you frantically reloading often (or relying on your rapier) as you battle undead horrors in the era of Louis XIV.
Your king would like to see the sun shine on all of the realms, but the Moon King has a different idea. One that involves a lot of corpses shambling around, generally getting up to trouble. While Louis XIV is enough of a problem on this own, the zombie thing seems to be a bigger priority, so you’ll need to use your musket and rapier to deal with the living dead. Trouble is, your musket only holds a single shot and is an ordeal to reload, so you’ll want to get good with that sword if you don’t want to join these bloodthirsty corpses.
When you’ve used up your single shot and your enemies are still creeping up on you, you can take advantage of the chaos, though. Enemies will damage one another with their shots or attacks, so if you can goad them into taking a swing that will hit their, that’s less work for you. Not that you aren’t quick with the rapier, but it’s nice to conserve a little energy and have the monsters take care of things for you for a little bit. Beats getting turned into a bloody mess by entering the fray yourself.
Heidelberg 1693 is a grim, bloody, but satisfying gothic horror action game, one made more tense by giving you such a limited weapon with your musket. It’s a pretty good feeling when you reload it with just enough time to take down the slavering corpse that’s about to bite you!
Heidelberg 1693 will be made available today on Steam.
