In this week’s IGP First Look, we take to the stars to save animal spirits with hugs and grow our luscious hair with the flowers that shine in the night sky with the PS4 release of Gravity Ghost.
We join Iona, a colorful phantom in space, as she looks for her lost fox spirit friend, following their story together through losing ourselves to the power of gravity. We can hop and jump in space, but those won’t get us very far. Instead, we’ll need to use the gravitational pull of planets of various sizes to launch ourselves through space, collecting flowers, stars, and playful wandering animal spirits.
Doing so might not be easy at first. Floating along on a planet’s pull is something that becomes quite intuitive and natural once you’ve learned how it feels (which I state for the video, but clearly am not quite at that skill level yet). It’s the kind of thing that you develop a sense of how to do once you’ve lost yourself to the pull and push of the planets. It’s the kind of skill that comes from relaxing with the game and letting it teach you how it works through feel. It’s a kind of letting go of control, rather than holding on tight, and it makes for a refreshing look at how games play.
Once you have that skill down, you’ll be hurtling through colorful clusters filled with gorgeous animal spirits, all to the relaxing sounds of the game’s wonderful soundtrack. It looks, plays, and sounds lovely, and with the PS4 version adding a few more challenge levels and musical tracks, it’s a great time to lose yourself to the pull of Gravity Ghost yet again.
Gravity Ghost: Deluxe Edition is available now on PS4. The previous release is also available on Steam.
