This week’s IGP First Look at run n’ gun game Gun Crazy sees us battling an army of robots because we either stole a police car or because we are the police and we hate robots. We’re not sure which.
You find yourself cast out onto the streets with only your rapid-fire blaster to protect you from the array of hostile mechanical balls that are out to kill you for some reason. Whatever their motivation, it’s time to lay waste to everything in your path, filling the screen with shots and explosions.
Gun Crazy makes for some wild shooting fun, again loading the screen with fire and death. It feels good to just blast away as you move (run and gun, if you will), mowing foes down. They don’t have much health, so they pop like bubble wrap around you. They make up for their weakness with numbers, always pitting you up against a ton of foes all at once. You have a lot of health as well, meaning things feel a little bit looser than highly-precise run n’ gun games like Contra. You don’t have to be as careful as you can take more damage, but also feels a lot easier to get hit often to counter that.
The result is a game where everything is getting shot at, the world seems to be exploding around you, and the sound is pounding in your ears. So, good running and gunning, just like I said.
Gun Crazy is available now on the Humble Store and Steam.
