Ikenfell follows a handful of mischief-making students at a magical school, joining them as they grow as friends and deal with weird monstrosities and secrets in the enchanted halls.
Who doesn’t want to become a wizard at magic school (so long as your school isn’t invented by someone with really nasty ideas)? Six friends will meet each other in the halls and in classes of this sorcerous academy, joining forces to see what sorts of mysteries lie within its walls. Maybe you’ll even get some new wands and hats for your trouble. Most likely you’ll just get in trouble with your spell-flinging teachers, though. Although you should get a good grade if you beat them up. In theory.
How to crush your magical superiors? You can bring three of your six friends into battle when you find trouble, gauging which of their abilities would be best suited for the fight. The game isn’t keen on wasting your time with grinding, so each fight is designed to be a clever challenge that you’ll need to plan for. Once you have your team ready, you’ll need to know the specific timings of your spells to get them just right. At least you don’t have to factor in MP, as the game lets you use spells whenever you want. It’s knowing which spells will best counter what your foes are up to that’s key.
Ikenfell aims to challenge your tactical mind while also offering you a lovely story of friends growing together (and overcoming evil together, too, I guess). Its characters are lovely and it’s compelling in its play, making for an experience you keep wanting more of.
Ikenfell will be available today on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, Humble Store, and Steam.
