Drawings of warrior dogs, rabbits, and donkeys will fight one another (with a little help from their artist) in Inkulinati, a strategy game taking place in the pages of an illuminated manuscript.
Inkulinati has two warring sides on either end of a manuscript, sending their hand-drawn forces against each other to see who can emerge victorious. You can choose from an array of battle beasts, each with their own offensive powers and silly abilities. Using ranged and melee attacks, as well as the occasional bit of singing, barking, or cheeky trumpet playing to create useful status effects, you can hopefully overcome your artist opponent.
Seeing as the true battle is between the illuminators drawing the manuscript, they can join the fray themselves as well. You can use your fist to strike at your opponent’s forces in a fit of anger, but your enemy can do the same thing. You’d think smashing artwork with your fist would make an unwanted mess, but ink splotches can be gathered to fuel your own powers, helping you summon more help.
Inkulinati not only fills with artwork as the battle progresses, but a story is told above the combat in the pages of the manuscript. The game logs the events of the fight overhead, letting you create a narrative in flowing, beautiful type. Because that’s what I want when I fail miserably: a lovely written record of my poor decisions.
Inkulinati is currently in development, but can be added to your Steam Wishlist.
