Jeppe & Oswald is an adorable side-scrolling narrative game where you are playing a silly pixie trying to pass the pixie exam.
This game is based on a series of German children’s books of the same name, turning the stories into a more interactive experience. As you want to become a pixie that lives in the house of humans, you need to pass a series of tests. Your hamster friend is sometimes helping you, but seems to not want you to become a house pixie, so sometimes they just try to get in the way. The exam itself is spit into a bunch of different chapters which you can do in any real order; going through the house and brushing spiders away, jumping through the forest on the back of a squirrel, throwing blueberries at the hamster guy… there is a lot to be done before you can be a pixie.

The game is, quite obviously, aimed at children. With that in mind, the levels themselves have a good variety to them and I do like that they are free-form in the way that you can pick whichever level you want to play next. There are cutscenes between aspects of the game which feel a lot like watching little TV shows. I see this being a very engaging game for the audience that they are looking to obtain, even if you’ve not heard of the book itself.
I got the chance to play a bunch of Jeppe & Oswald at Gamescom where I found out all about the books alongside the game. I do think that the co-op mode, which adds Bjolla – a forest pixie – to the game, will make this one of the titles that my child wants to play with me as well.

Jeppe & Oswald is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can add it to your Steam Wishlist.
