Kaiju Wars has you under attack from colossal beasts, and you’ll never beat them. If you can use tanks, jets, and buildings to misdirect them enough, though…
As the Mayor of Floatio City, you’ve got a rough job to do. Huge monsters are charging toward the city, and you honestly don’t have enough power to stop them. However, your scientists are working on an anti-monster serum that will get the creatures to leave. That takes time, though, so your whole goal is to keep the monster occupied long enough for your solution to come together. This means putting tanks in their path, dropping buildings in locations that will draw their attention, and using experimental weapons to draw their ire.
The kaiju have specific interests and focuses, and the probability of what they’ll attack is shown on the map. You can put a bit of extra hurt on them by placing units that will counter their approach or take advantage of what they’re focusing on. That said, the monsters love to beat down your buildings, which are the source of all the resources you need to do anything. Your scientist is also housed in a building, and you’ll need to evacuate them to continue their work if the monster turns their attention that way. The monsters also increase in strength quite frequently, increasing the danger with every round that passes. They can also hone in on your scientist at times, too, directly focusing on them. Lose your scientist and it’s all over.
Kaiju Wars is an intriguing take on strategy, tasking you with finding a different kind of victory when faced with an overwhelming opponent. It takes a bit to get used to thinking about how to delay your opponent instead of beating them, but it creates an interesting kind of tension as the creatures creep closer and closer to your scientist.
Kaiju Wars is available now on Steam.
