Larcin Lazer puts lots of visible dangers on your path to stealing valuable stuff. It’s those pesky lasers that you only see for a moment that you’ll need to remember.
As a jewel thief, you need to sneak through some grid-based locations and grab the goods. Not too terrible, right? Well, these valuables are in some odd places. Yes, a building full of security guards isn’t too odd. However, some of these places are haunted by ghosts. Some have a big problem with snakes. Each of these things behaves differently and makes your heist that much harder in their own way. They’d probably be fairly easy to handle, though, if it weren’t for the fact that these places are all filled with invisible lasers that will cut your thieving days short.
Now, while these lasers are invisible, you still know where they are. Once you start a map, you can see where each laser sits on the grid. You’re a good thief, so you’ve studied the layout, right? Well, you get a second to study the map, but once you take a single step, the lasers all fade from sight. You’ll need to remember where they all are while dodging the other dangers on each map. Having to remember invisible lasers while weaving around guards, snakes, ghosts, and more can get pretty hectic. Your instinct will often have you darting back and forth to get out of danger, but that’s always when I blunder into one of these traps. Keeping the layout firmly in mind while making a panicked retreat is where the game really shines and reveals the challenge under its sharp visuals.
Larcin Lazer is an impressive stealth puzzle game that distills the formula down to an approachable, yet deep experience. If you’ve got a good memory under pressure you’ll be stealing with style and having a blast.
