Legrand Legacy: Tale of theFatebounds, now available on the Switch, recalls the spirit of grand adventure, sweeping stories, involved combat, and expansive gameplay that came with some of the PS2’s greatest JRPGs.
A gladiator finds out that life has a lot in store for him in Legrand Legacy. Legendary beasts. Stories of redemption and revenge. Mysterious folks. Betrayal. All that good stuff. Plus friendship with a crew of quirky party members. Totally a recipe for PS1/2 JRPG goodness.
Legrand Legacy goes further than that, offering some sharp combat that will keep players involved in the fight. Like the Shadow Hearts series, Legrand Legacy uses a combat wheel when you choose what actions to take in a fight, having you tap the button in certain positions as an arrow spins around. The more good zones you hit, the better your attack works. No mashing buttons through a fight for you.
Not that small-scale combat is the only way you’ll be fighting. You’ll also be guiding whole armies in large battles against entire nations. This requires a tactical mind, but surely you can manage that. If not, you can always sneak off and go fishing or play one of the many minigames hidden throughout the world. There’s more to life than fighting everyone, even if you are on a quest for revenge.
If being constructive is more your style, Legrand Legacy also has a city for you to spruce up. You can hire craftsmen and take on tasks to restore an abandoned town, turning the place around and creating a fine home base for yourself (Suikoden-style). Just don’t let your town tinkering distract you too much from the whole evil army thing.
Legrand Legacy: Tale of the Fatebounds is available on the Nintendo Switch, the Humble Store, GameJolt, and Steam.
