Lemon Cake is a management simulator where you are running a cafe, baking cakes and taking care of a small greenhouse, all to help a ghost who just wants baked goods.
You aren’t much of a baker, but you are up for the task of helping out the ghost owner of this old bakery. Despite ghosts sometimes being quite scary, this character is just a bit intense, but always there to help you out. The game takes place across three rooms, which you can run in a straight line through, starting with the cafe, then the bakery section, and then the greenhouse.
At the top of the screen, you can see notifications that allow you to manage these three rooms – small dots popping up to tell you that there isn’t an item in your window, that dishes might need to be cleaned, or maybe plants need watering. These bubbles are not very invasive, and serve as a gentle reminder – not overbearing in any way.
At the start of each day, you can begin preparing things, opening when you want too. There might be some flour to sweep up or goods to make and display before the start. Once you are ready, the game does begin, and then you can spend some time getting people’s orders, making baked goods, cleaning, and tending to any plants and animals you have. Animals and plants will give you some ingredients used to make various goods you can then sell, as long as they are taken care of.
It’s not too difficult to play through a day, although the lunch rush does give you a bit of challenge as customers don’t have enough seating. At the end of the day, your ghost friend Bonbon will give you some feedback and let you spend the money you have earned. Purchases come in the form of three different skill tree options, letting you pick items in different categories that can help the various areas of your business. You can add new plants and animals to your greenhouse, as well as add display stands and settings to your cafe.
You can also customise your menu, adding in new items and making sure that you have what you’d like on offer ready to be created and made. In Lemon Cake, you will gain XP while you work, and the ghost will then help you learn new recipes as you get better at the game. It’s a relaxing experience with some wonderful visuals – a game where you can just be happy and bake some cakes. It’s a great time, really!
