A walk home from school takes a turn for the surreal as eight-year-old Nyah finds herself in a bizarre, gloomy, hostile realm in Little Bug.
Nyah’s lucky in that she isn’t alone, though, as a luminous spirit aims to help her get home on this dark, frightening walk. You’ll have to guide them both at the same time, though, if you hope to get the little girl back where she came from.
A moonlit world filled with bitter spirits and an excess of creepy hands looms ahead, but by making Nyah and her spirit work together, you should be able to get through. Nyah can walk around on the ground and pick up any treasures you stumble across, but the spirit is free to fly wherever you guide it. To get them to work together, you can create a tether between them that will help Nyah leap around, knock down barriers, dispel evil apparitions, or just light the way forward. It’s teamwork, but there is definitely an ‘I’ in team in Little Bug.
As you find treasures for Nyah to place in her lunchbox, you’ll unravel bits of Nyah’s own story and life, revealing her time with her mother, sister, and grandmother. Through these, you’ll get a sense of her life, the reasons her mom seems so tired lately, and the truths behind the stories her grandma tells her. Or you can give them to a spirit cat named Roadkill in order to get new challenge levels. It’s up to you.
Little Bug takes you to a world that is simultaneously unnerving, yet infused with hope and imagination.
Little Big is available for $9.99 on Itch.io, GameJolt, and Steam.
