The nasty ruling class is up to no good (as usual) in Lofty Quest. You just need to help some heroes find their fighting spirit to deal with the evil king.
Sister Jessica is striving to find the spirit of the hero to pull the world out of its current dark times. Perhaps this is less a search for an actual ghost that is going to handle things than a quest to find that spirit within all of us, though? To that end, you’ll be helping out an array of people going through ordinary (ish) lives. How? Well, most of them need your help looking around for items in their surroundings. As you help collect the things they’re searching for or need, you’ll move through their own stories and lives. Hopefully, you’ll find a bit of courage lying within each of them to try to make things better.
To find those items, you’ll be rotating and moving 3D dioramas around, poking at their hidden alleys and secret places. There are five different locales for you to rifle through, and each has its own character and narrative to it. As you dredge up lost items in each of these places, you’ll get to know the characters and find a kind of everyday heroism in their struggles. Plus, the locations are pleasant to pore over, taking you to nighttime streets, gloomy catacombs, and snowy hills in your searches.
Lofty Quest is a calming take on the urgency that can come when evil is descending upon you, but in that calmness, it also shows the way that ordinary people, in their struggles to care for people, can find the courage to face the monstrous forces in their lives. It’s a look at the act of searching that comes with the hidden item genre, and how that search can be for more than just objects lying around. It can also be a search within the self and others for something they truly need.
Lofty Quest is available now on itch.io and Steam.
