Have you ever wondered about your family and their lives? LooK INside explores that curiosity by spinning it into an artistic experience that combines narrative and point & click elements.
You will navigate the intricate tapestry of ancestry from the point of view of a young French girl, Manon. She finds herself immersed in a plethora of lives and adventures, filling the pages of an old book she stumbled upon in the attic. Using a 2.5D view, you will browse the pages of this book (and other media, like social media) and interact with its elements.
Its these elements that really make LooK INside impressive. Shaking a souvenir to show off a rain of leaves to illustrate fall, or flipping a plane ticket to view the sights; the game goes the extra mile to convey these past adventures to both the protagonist and you. Relaxing puzzles in the form of deciphering clues in the book, or even the environment you read it in, provide you with a less pressure-filled objective. You may find yourself simply placing flowers in a vase, or stringing beads to make a necklace. There is only an emphasis on a gentle narrative that you can digest at whatever pace you prefer.
In this first chapter, you’ll be unlocking portraits of Manon’s ancestors and trying to figure out their placement, depending on the clues you find. Don’t try to read too deeply into the family. It is stressed that this is not a detective game, or a seedy underbelly in the family. The game’s puzzles are playful in nature, and will make you feel as if the game is giving you friendly feedback as you dabble with its cute puzzles. I mean, you play with leftover letters in a cereal bowl, and dial a phone number on an old-fashioned kid’s toy phone. The game has an overall friendly tone, and if you want a soft-handed narrative that lets you discover things in a clever, thought-provoking way, while still maintaining a very playful sense, you’ll want to brew a nice coffee or tea and kick back with LooK INside.
