Lucian Corp’s robot army is not quite equipped to deal with Erika, Zeta, and Neva, with each offering their own unique ways to crush hostile machines.
Metaloid: Origin lets you choose from three playable characters to tackle its nine stages of machine menaces. Erika is more than happy to hose the screen down with bullets, Zeta can call down boss-blasting thunder, and Neva can fly overhead dropping damaging shots down on enemies (think Kirby with mortars). It’s up to you which play style you like best, although no one’s stopping you from giving them all a spin.
Whatever play style you settle on, you can improve your weapons and gear over the course of the game by picking up Soulrium from fallen robots. You can use this stuff at any time to power your weapons up (as you can do it from the pause menu). Firing a wave of fire at enemies is cool and all, but what if it could shoot even more fire? That’s the kind of thinking you need to adopt, here.
Metaloid: Origin will have you using those powers in a variety of locales, too. Whether hurtling through the desert in a high-speed scooter or tangling with huge walkers in snowy fields, the game aims to offer some neat setpieces as you shred robots. You can also make those outings a little more challenging with varied difficulty levels, too.
There’s a lot you can choose or customize about how you play the game, so expect to find your own niche in the robot blasting business.
Metaloid: Origin is available now on Steam.
