In Neighbor, it’s less than a beautiful day in the neighborhood for poor Lucy. And there’s some deeply unsettling things that want her to be theirs.
Lucy got her dream apartment for a steal of a price. That’s exciting news! Maybe exciting enough to deal with the fact that your neighbor is up to some really strange stuff. And he tells you not to go out at night. For me, a dream apartment usually involves not having creepy neighbors, but I guess the bar is kinda low for poor Lucy. She’ll definitely come to regret this rental soon, though, as bad things quickly go down in this scary Game Boy title.
You’ll guide Lucy as she explores her new living space, trying to survive against the forces that keep skulking about the place and beyond. Things get gruesome in a hurry if you get too curious. Not that they don’t get bad if you AREN’T curious and behave yourself. There’s something awful living in the building, and you’ll likely die a handful of jarring deaths as you try to deal with it. Even when you do manage to take care of your monster problems and move on, expect horror and sorrow to keep following you wherever you go.
Neighbor is a tense experience as you find yourself being followed by new horrors every time you feel you’re safe. It’ll take some doing to unravel how to progress without getting turned into a bloody smear, but the stunning artwork in the game makes it all worthwhile.
Neighbor is available now (for whatever you wish to pay for it) on itch.io.
