The Neverinth is always changing, which makes it an especially taxing place for those who wish to survive its challenges and become Valkyries in service to Yggdrasill.
Neverinth asks you to choose from five different heroines, each called by the Tree of Life when the Old Gods were found to be dead. Since gods are already dying, you can guess that the game is going to be just the slightest bit challenging. While you may be taking on the abilities of powerful warrior women, you still might find yourself dead on the maze’s doorsteps if you don’t take extreme care while within the dungeon. Any enemy can take you out if you aren’t careful.
Many of you are likely familiar with dealing with these kinds of challenges from other difficult action RPGs, but this one throws another curve ball at you with its randomized dungeons. Each time you start, the layout, items, and enemies are different, so you can’t really find one single play style and use it on everything. You have to stay fluid and be willing to change up your strategy based on terrain, layouts, and item drops, demanding experience and quick reflexes.
You’ll be rewarded for your hard work with some lovely dungeon environments and intriguing enemies. Getting an axe out of a book is either really goofy or really cool – I honestly cannot decide. Still, the Norse myth-inspired foes offer many challenges and some pleasing things to look at (even if they are knocking your head around). With the added appeal of various weapons, characters, and abilities, you’ll have a robust adventure that will continually challenge you in new ways.
Neverinth is available now on Steam Early Access.
