Night Cascades sees Diane getting brought in to help with a very strange police case. But what’s more compelling is your overly-familiar new partner.
Having a folklore degree doesn’t usually get one involved in many police cases, but a series of strange (possibly Satanic) fires means your expertise is needed. It’s the 80’s, after all, so everything is potentially Satanic. Role playing, video games, comic books – all Satanic. You know this if you grew up in the era. Which means Diane is probably in high demand with her knowledge of the occult. Anyway, her studies have made her a valuable asset when looking into the weird, religious slant of the fires. She’ll just have to figure out what she wants to do about her new partner, Jackie.
Jackie can be pretty forward. Not that Diane minds, deep down. It’s a difficult time for their attraction in the 80’s, but you’ll get to see it grow from both sides (you can play as both characters, getting different sides of the stories). Investigating a case means spending a lot of time alone together, after all. Although you may need to focus on your work instead of your partner periodically, as you have to play some interesting minigames to get the proper clues from the scenes. You’ll also want to get the right answers out of any suspects. Although I suppose getting it wrong means you spend a bit more time together, so…
Night Cascades is a stunning-looking game of growing attraction during a tense police case. It’s an intriguing mystery to solve, although it can be hard to focus on when you’re more interested in seeing where the connection between Jackie and Diane is going. No matter where your focus lies, it should have you pretty hooked.
Night Cascades is available now on itch.io and Steam.
