Hot on the heels of their latest game, Unavowed, Wadjet Eye Games are gearing up for another dark urban fantasy tale with Nighthawks.
This time around, it’s not going to be made in their usual pointy and clicky ways. Instead, this tale of modern day vampires will be “a mix of story-driven RPG and undead life-simulation,” following your exploits as the new vampire on the block.
Nighthawks isn’t solely developed by Dave Gilbert. He’s collaborating with Richard Cobbett, who worked as a writer for Sunless Skies, Sunless Sea, The Long Journey Home, and the recently released, Brexit-inspired Not Tonight. Ben Chandler of Shardlight and Unavowed fame will provide some rather lovely art.
This will be a text-based, freeform RPG, “with stories branching off it – some funny, some tragic, some horrific – where your decisions are always bleeding together. Get caught lying too often and your untrustworthy reputation will follow you around, while raising suspicion will draw the attention of first mortal, and then darker authorities.”
I’m already sold on the concept and the people working on it, but if you’re on the fence, you might want to take a look at the Kickstarter campaign and get a bit more information about how things will work in Nighthawks. The campaign reached 20% of its $125000 funding goal within the first 24 hours, so it’s definitely off to a promising start. Backer rewards include naming an NPC and, uh, getting eaten by a vampire. Charming.
