One Night Stand, now available on consoles for the first time, asks you how’d you’d react if you suddenly found yourself waking up beside a stranger in bed.
Who is this person you’ve been sleeping beside? What did you do? The game immediately sets your mind swirling with questions about what happened and what you’re going to do now. You’re in the small space of their bedroom, and must decide how you’re going to proceed from here. Depending on what you look at or say, you might find a growing connection with this stranger, or find yourself out on the street in your skivvies.
The game’s rotoscope visual style might incline you to connect with the stranger, though. The style loans her a natural movement style, and this touching vulnerability which we’ve explored in talks with the developer. There’s a connection that forms in a hurry as you talk with the stranger and spend time with her, but after how you met, you might not have a great chance of having a second meeting with her.
One Night Stand compacts a lovely story and life into a single bedroom, and does a stunning job of making you instantly connect with the stranger. If you’ve not tried the game yet, grab it on any one of the modern systems it’s now out for and spend a little time feeling an almost-surreal connection with a video game character.
One Night Stand is available now on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, the Humble Store, itch.io, and Steam.
I love games like this. Reminds me of that old game where you can choose how to act at a dinner party.
