If you want a new challenge, One Step From Eden is for the quickest reactors, mixing positioning and deck-building that will have you playing attacks and dodging shots.
In One Step From Eden, you’ll have to organize a deck or special abilities that capitalize on your strengths. Going all out? Load up on your strongest cards, and don’t hold back. Want to play safe? Mix in some defensive cards. Once you’ve really gotten a knack for it, you’ll be able to throw in some deadly combos by chaining spells together. It’s up to you how you want to play it, but your deck isn’t the only key to victory. You’ll need to watch your enemy just as closely and that is the true challenge. Do you think you can balance both launching your attacks and moving around the grid-like playing field to keep yourself safe?
Upon defeating your nemesis, you may find yourself with a choice. Deliver a deadly blow, or practice a merciful approach? Depending on your choices, your ending may change. Hopefully for the better. If you feel like you’d like to see the world from the enemy’s point of view, you can even play as them and find out their specialties.
The combat may seem overwhelming at first, but I believe One Step From Eden will soon find its way into many deck building fans’ hearts. It’s already charmed folks at Dreamhack Atlanta, after all.
One Step From Eden’s demo is available on Itch.io and GameJolt. You can also support their Kickstarter.
