Out for Delivery is an interactive documentary where you are a delivery driver in Beijing on January 23rd, 2020, the day that Wuhan shut down due to the pandemic.
Each of the scenes is a 360 degree level, looking much like a video, with your own hand-drawn phone to look at and learn from. Important instructions and messages appear on this phone, helping guide you through the entire experience.
Above people’s heads, you will see bits of story as you go about your day to day life. Your equipment needs to be sanitized, you need to set off to do your deliveries, and you need to live your day to day life. It’s a bit of a challenge as transportation across Wuhan is closed, but your job still needs to continue despite the changes.
Out for Delivery has an entire playtime of about 42 minutes – though you most likely won’t see everything that’s going on. With a 360 degree view, you won’t see the things happening behind you unless you keep looking around all the time. There are word bubbles appearing above people’s heads, but these don’t stay to wait for your interaction. They do fade away quickly, which means you will need to keep your eyes peeled to continue following the story.
This game is quite different from other games I have played, but its documentary style provides a new and interesting way to experience the start of the pandemic from across the world.
