From the creators of Hue, Paper Trail is a beautiful game about exploration, puzzles, and a seemingly small town (which is quite foldable) of characters to help.
You have the ability to fold the world around you, and you use this power to solve puzzles and get to new places. Grabbing the edge of an area and folding it reveals an environment on the other side. As long as your character isn’t in the area that needs to be folded away, you can fold it and see what is hiding underneath. In doing so, you may find things or unveil new paths.
This concept is quite intriguing, giving you essentially two worlds in one if you can find the right folds. Despite the idea being one I haven’t seen often, the controls (and interaction points) are pretty easy, with small white circles showing you that you can pull back a spot. Finding new paths and making your way there feels quite rewarding, especially as you remember areas that you’ve moved around in.
From what I have played of Paper Trail, at EGX, I found the game to be charming, lovely, and quite relaxing as I made my way to talk to an older woman’s son or to help one of the other townspeople find a path out of their home after a storm. Sometimes, the characters would comment on how the world seemed to have magically changed, but even with their comments, they don’t directly talk about my power, which is quite interesting to me!
Paper Trail is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can follow its creation on the developer’s Twitter.
