All manner of creatures colorful and silly could use a little help from a red ball with legs in the adorable Pikuniku.
Pikuniku takes you to the brightest, most cheerful dystopia you could hope to end up in. I mean, yeah, there’s a deep state conspiracy, and yeah, you might kind of start a revolution, but at least it will be a cheerful, charming one! Besides, if you don’t feel a deep anger at anyone who would pick on these cute creatures, then your heart may be busted. That or I draw too much attachment to shapes with eyes.
Pikuniku will have you meet all sorts of creatures and help them out with their lives through some quick puzzle solving and platforming. Just expect a little quirkiness while you do some work for them. Their appeal lies in their unique natures, after all, making it a joy to meet whichever oddball the game throws at you next.
If you’re afraid that Pikuniku will be too short, it also offers a cooperative mode with several silly minigames to play with a pal. It’s good to bring your real world friends in on this friend-making adventure, isn’t it?
Pikuniku is available now on the Nintendo Switch, Itch.io, and Steam.
Man, I really, really did not like the dance battle bit. I cannot tell where the buttons are by seeing “B” or “Y” flash by on the screen. I usually memorize what a button does and move on, especially since I play across systems that have different names for the buttons. At some point maybe I will draw the key layout on the piece of paper and tape it to the screen but for now my game has ended there.
